The Larson Marks Racing team wrapped up three nights of action in North Dakota last night. Shane Stewart earned a top-10 finish at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks Friday night. The team followed that up with top-five results at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo on Saturday and Nodak Speedway in Minot on Sunday.
On Friday, Stewart earned the second-quickest lap time in Flight B of qualifying at River Cities Speedway and followed that up with a heat race win. He advanced one spot in the Craftsman Club Dash to earn the third-starting position for the 40-lap main event. Stewart raced within the top five for the first 10 laps, but struggled on the restarts, and dropped back as low as 10th before gaining a position back to finish in ninth-place.
The following night, Stewart earned his fourth quick-time of the season and a new track record at Red River Valley Speedway. After finishing second in his heat race, he earned the third starting spot for the main event. Early in the 30-lap feature, Stewart slipped back to fourth but charged to the runner-up position by lap 5. Stewart maintained the second spot and even contended for the lead, before capping the feature with a strong third-place finish.
The Larson Marks team closed out the weekend at Nodak Speedway on Sunday and started things out by earning the second-quickest lap time in time trials. Stewart won his heat race and finished fourth in the Craftsman Club Dash. After starting outside of row two, Stewart slipped back as far as sixth on the start of the 35-lap main event. He was back into the top five by lap 13 and moved up to fourth with 10 laps remaining. He maintained the fourth position in the closing laps to earn the team’s second top five result for the weekend.
“Despite Friday’s result, we had a great weekend,” said Stewart. “I’m generally not that great of a qualifier and we were able to qualify really well this weekend. We even earned a quick time and a new track record, which is so cool. Add in the podium finish and another top-five, it was a successful weekend. I’ve got to thank my team – Lee, Heath and Dennis – for providing me with a great car all weekend and I look forward to carrying that momentum into the next couple of weeks.”
