Shane Stewart Larson Marks Racing World of Outlaws Devil's Bowl Speedway
An emotional Shane Stewart captured the teams second win of the season Saturday night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. The half-mile oval is somewhat of a home track for Stewart who grew up in nearby Bixby, Okla.
The Larson Marks Racing team qualified eighth on Friday night and finished third in the second heat race. After starting eighth in the feature event, Stewart was able to climb two positions to earn a sixth-place finish.
During the finale on Saturday night, Stewart qualified ninth quickest and lined up to start third in the final heat race. In the eight-lap race, he was able to make an early pass for second and then completed a slide job for the lead to win and transfer to the all-important dash. After the redraw for the dash, Stewart took the green from the fourth position and was able to earn the third starting spot for the main event.
Stewart ran in the top five throughout the entire race, waiting for a chance to challenge the leaders. On the race’s final restart with six laps remaining, Stewart was able to get around Friday night’s winner, Joey Saldana, for the second position and set his sights on the leader. Shortly after, Stewart was able to complete the pass on leader Daryn Pittman to earn his second win of the season.
“I’m a little choked up, this is a big win for me. A lot of people have helped me get to this point. I have driven for a lot of good car owners, like my mom and dad who are here,” Stewart said. “It’s been a long road to get here that’s for sure, and some days you don’t think you’re ever going to get here but when you finally do it makes it really special. There were plenty of times I thought ‘this is it, I am going to have to get a regular job’ but people kept believing in me and giving me opportunities – [team owners] Justin [Marks] and Kyle [Larson] are a great example of that.”
After Saturday night’s win, Stewart remains second in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series point standings, 87 points out of the lead. The Larson Marks Racing team will be back in action Tuesday, April 26 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
