Shane Stewart and the Larson Marks Racing team traveled to the San Joaquin Valley for one night of racing this weekend. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series was scheduled to compete in two nights at the Stockton Dirt Track but the opening night was canceled due to rain.
On Saturday, Stewart was the second car out to qualify in Group 1 of qualifying and earned the quickest lap time of the night, also setting a new track record. He started on the pole of the opening heat race and won. The four pill was drawn for the dash inversion, and Stewart started the six-lap Craftsman Club Dash from the fourth position, before advancing one spot. The pilot of the No.2 LMR sprint car started the 30-lap main event from the third position. He was able to maintain that position through several restarts and lapped traffic to finish on the podium, earning the team’s third top-five finish of the season.
“That was a heck of a race to watch from my vantage point,” commented Stewart about the battle of the lead. “I was hoping I could get up there and race with Brad [Sweet] and Donny [Schatz], but we never seemed to get a green flag run that kept us in traffic long enough. I want to send a big thanks to my guys, we have a lot of speed right now and the wins are going to come.”
