Kraus Preps for Toyota Racing Gran Turismo Supra Challenge

With the entire motorsports world on pause due to COVID-19 quarantine, Toyota wants to ensure a handful of its drivers can still have some competitive fun thanks to a virtual challenge. From NASCAR to NHRA, Formula Drift to ARCA and more, the stage will be set for these racers to get down and dirty in the Gran Turismo Supra Challenge, including ENEOS-sponsored Bill McAnally Racing driver, Derek Kraus.

Last week Toyota shipped a full PS4 setup with a Playseat Evolution gaming chair, Thrustmaster T300 RS GT steering wheel/pedals and a copy of Gran Turismo Sport which will place some of Toyota Racing’s pros — like Fredric Aasbo from Formula Drift or 2020 Daytona 500 winner, Denny Hamlin — against its up-and-coming talent pool, like Kraus, to a series of one-lap, head-to-head matchups in the game’s Toyota GR Supra RZ. It’s an even playing field for all involved, so we can’t wait to see who’ll come up on top.

Word is some of these drivers have skills beyond the track, some in ways most might not expect. Kraus says that most of his downtime has been spent playing loads of iRacing and Gran Turismo (along with fishing). He says, “Before I received the PS4, I concentrated mostly on iRacing, and these games have graphics that are so realistic, except the only difference is you can’t feel the g-forces like you would in a real car.”

Of all the Toyota drivers, Kraus says he’s looking forward to racing against Max McLaughlin most. “This is going to be really fun and challenging to see who’s going to turn in the fastest lap!” Follow Toyota Racing’s social channels for the latest updates, and to see which drivers are participating, visit the Racer article below.
