Faruk Kugay Joins ENEOS Motorsports Family

It’s with great pleasure that we can announce the addition of Faruk Kugay to the ENEOS North American Motorsports family. For 2020, Team Faruk will be competing in the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship in the SGK Performance / Nuke / ENEOS Oil / Nexen Tire Nissan S14. He will be competing against the full FD field, including ENEOS-sponsored driver and 2011 Champion, Dai Yoshihara.

In addition to race reports from the eight rounds of the 2020 Formula DRIFT PRO Championship, we’ll be working with Faruk to bring you regular social media updates and videos from his day job: SGK Performance based at Sonoma Raceway in California. This specialty service and tuning shop boasts its own chassis dyno and uses ENEOS Motor Oil in many of the performance cars that roll through its doors.

In addition to Formula DRIFT, Faruk will be providing insights into the advantages of ENEOS products in race and street applications. But he won’t only be looking at performance applications; he’ll also examine how the low friction benefits not only lead to more power but also great economy through higher efficiency.

ABOUT FARUK KUGAY

Faruk was born in the town of Swidnik, Poland to a Polish mother and Laz father (a Turkish ethnic minority). Emigrating to San Francisco at a young age, his father taught him the value of regular car maintenance but once he started drifting in 2002, Faruk discovered his life’s passion.

Setting his sights on joining Formula DRIFT, he achieved this goal in 2014 when he earned his FD PRO2 license through the local NorCal Pro-Am series. Faruk then stepped up to the PRO license in 2015, competing in a 2JZ-GTE-powered 2008 BMW E92. He would continue in the series through 2018 before taking a sabbatical in 2019 to compete in the Netflix Hyperdrive show and to rebuild his team.

For 2020, a rejuvenated Team Faruk returns to the Formula DRIFT PRO category with the SGK Performance / Nuke / ENEOS Oil / Nexen Tire Nissan S14.

In order to support his driving career, Faruk has worked in every area of drifting, from event organization and media production, to instructing, commentating, and judging in the US and Europe. He is fluent in Turkish thanks to his father, which helped tremendously when running a drift school while living in Istanbul. He also speaks some Polish, and Faruk is exceedingly grateful for his worldwide fan base.

Faruk is the manager of Sonoma Drift at Sonoma Raceway, where enthusiasts can drive on three courses on many Wednesday nights throughout the year. They can also participate in Winter Jam, which attracts around 360 drivers and 4000 spectators. Outside of drift, Faruk is a partner at SGK Performance, which is also located at the Sonoma track offering servicing and tuning for all makes of cars.
